Robert Coates, Sr.

COATES, Robert Maurice, Sr. - age 74, of Linden, died August 2, 2018. Cremation has taken place. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Henry Ford Hospice, 2799 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI 48202. Robert was born October 6, 1943 in Flint. He was a 1961 graduate of Flint Southwestern High School. He earned his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. Robert taught at Detroit Cody High School, West Shore Elementary School, Hamady High School and Baker College where he retired in 2000. Robert was a past president of North Flint Kiwanis Club. Surviving are: three children, Dr. Robert M. Coates, Jr. of CA, Shannon (Jeff) Poulath of CA, and Carrie (Eric) Carlson of East Lansing; five grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Dr. Douglas) Siders of Ann Arbor and Virginia (Dr. Ronald) Bratlie of Detroit Lakes, MN. He was preceded in death by: his father, Robert Fletcher Coates; and his mother, Annice M. (Coates) Knopf. Arrangements by Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden.
