BIGNALL, Robert W. - Age 91, of Linden, died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Lockwood of Fenton. Funeral service will be held 11AM Friday at Linden United Methodist Church, 201 S. Bridge St., Linden, Pastor Margo Kivisto officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-3 and 6-8PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad Street, Linden. Mr. Bignall was born in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Raymond W. and Vera D. (Gibbs) Bignall. He supported himself while he worked his way through high school, graduating from Flint Northern High School with honors in 1936. He attended GMI part-time while raising his family and working full-time. On May 14, 1941 he married Lyla E. Ellwood in Linden. She preceded him in death February 1, 2008. He retired in 1974 from GM Chevrolet Truck Assembly as Statistician of Engineering after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church and the Holiday Rambler's Trailer Club # 195. Surviving are a son, Robert E. and wife Nancy Bignall, 2 daughters, Marsha A. Fenton McDaniel and Sherry E. Bignall. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren -- Jeffrey R. Fenton (Fawn), Jennifer R. Fisch-Ferguson (Don), Andrew J. Bignall, Won-Hyung McCann (Bill), Stephanie L. Fenton and Angie Fenton -- who remember him well as always being involved in their activities, lives and special camping experiences. There are 3 great-grandsons, Ryan McCann, Alexander Fisch-Ferguson and Roan James Bignall; 3 great-granddaughters, Sky Bignall, Malika Beveridge-Bignall and Riley Bignall. Also surviving are siblings Herbert Bignall, Charles (Donna) Bignall, Vera Selfridge and Barbara Webster and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother George Bignall. Donations may be made to the Linden United Methodist Church. Many thanks to the residents and staff of Lockwood, The Medical Team and Heartland Hospice for making his last year so warm and joyful -- and for welcoming his family with open arms.
