Rita Promenchenkel

Rita Elizabeth (Folaron) Promenchenkel - Age 95, of Flint, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM, Friday April 9, 2021 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave, Flint. Fr. Anthony Strouse will officiate with burial following in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 12 PM to 8 PM Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. On Thursday evening, family and parish will gather to pray the rosary at 7 PM.  Friday morning Rita will be taken to church to lie in state from 10 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Rita was born on April 18, 1925 in Annandale, MN the daughter of John and Sarah (O'Brien) Folaron. She graduated from Flint Central High School, class of 1943. Rita and Kenneth Promenchenkel were united in marriage on December 1, 1943 in Flint. She worked for the State of Michigan Department of Labor as the supervisor of unemployment before her retirement in 1985. Rita was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the McLaren Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Rita liked bowling, swimming, euchre and gardening. Rita was a Senior Olympic receiving four silver medals and one bronze medal for bowling and swimming.

She is survived by her children, Theresa (David) Lagness and Gregory (Mary) Promenchenkel; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 21 great step-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diane Voto; and several nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; two sons, Lawrence and DuWayne Promenchenkel; brother, Francis (Marian) Folaron; and two sisters, Josephine and JoAnn (John) Stopka.
