Richard "Rick" Chipman

Richard Lee Chipman was called home at the age of 66 on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, after a brief and aggressive battle with the Covid-19 virus. An inspiration to many, the world has lost a great son, brother, father, and leader.  Rick was born on April 7, 1955 in Durand, Michigan. He graduated from Durand High School in 1973. In his early twenties, he and his friends would race anything anywhere - whether it be by land, sea, or even the air. Fixing up cars, motorcycles, and dirt bikes to race, tuning up speed boats to take on the water, or  building out RC planes to conquer the sky, he loved them all.  He was never short of projects or hobbies to keep him busy. In 1985, he welcomed his son, Daniel Grant Chipman into the world. In addition to his son, Rick is survived by his mother, Linda Ayers, as well as his brother, Kenneth and many beloved extended relatives. He was predeceased by his father, Daniel Vaughn Chipman. Despite suffering from motor-neuron disease for half of his life, he never let his disability get in the way of doing things or experiencing life. Rick loved the water and being outdoors. He had an affinity for lighthouses and always enjoyed spending time on the beach, flying kites, and taking in the natural beauty that Ludington and northern Michigan had to offer. People often remember Rick’s unflappable kindness, his infectious smile, and his relentless optimism. Always willing to help his fellow man, lend an ear, or give advice from his wealth of experience and wisdom, Rick cared greatly for the people in his life and always chose to see the best in them. A visitation for Rick will be held at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Michigan, on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 from 12pm to 7pm. The funeral service will follow immediately after. All are invited to attend.  Memorial contributions can be made to the family and sent to the funeral home mentioned above.
