ANDERSON, Richard “Rick” Carl - age 76, of Grand Blanc Township, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Monday, September 6 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Saturday; 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM Sunday, with a Rosary Service at 4:30 PM Sunday; and 12-1 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Rick was born November 25, 1944 in Ogden, UT, the son of Carl G. and Nadine (Seely) Anderson. He married Daphne Darleen Lee April 19, 1990 in St. Louis, MO. Rick lived in Grand Blanc for the last 17 years. He grew up in Roy, UT until enlisting in the U.S. Army in January 1964. Rick served the United States of America for 20 years serving in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and the United States retiring January 1984. Part of his career he was a member of the 101st and 84th Airborne. After he retired from active military service Rick continued serving in 1988 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. He continued serving as Director at Raleigh National Cemetery, NC, Wood National Cemetery, WI and Rock Island National Cemetery, IL. In 2004 Rick and his family moved to Grand Blanc, MI where he opened Great Lakes National Cemetery and served as Director until his retirement in 2013. After his retirement he volunteered with Great Lakes National Cemetery as a member of the Patriot Guard Rider's Flag Team. Rick was a member of the Vietnam Veterans. He was a past commander of the Rock Island IL American Legion, Pabst American Legion WI, and Korean War Veterans Association Chapter #251 MI where he was also the finance officer. He was a life member of the VFW Post #6498, DAV #1, Army-Navy Garrison #114, and AM VETS Post #2273 in Milwaukee WI. While in Wisconsin Rick supported his wife and daughter as a Girl Scout volunteer with Troops 335 and 1335. He was also a member of the Non Commissioned Officer Association and member of St. Rita's Catholic Church, in Holly, MI.
Surviving are: his wife, Daphne; children, David (Tracy) Guenther, Richard “Carl” Anderson Jr. (Victor), and Vicki Anderson; granddaughter, Arianna Noel; and his siblings, Dennis (Marcia), Karyl (Boyd), MSG Ronald (Ret.) (Erika), Kim (Wayne), Kelly (Steve); and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and son Eric Guenther.
