THORNE, Richard G. - Age 77, of Winchester, TN, formerly of Linden, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 in Nashville, TN. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11-2 & 4-8 PM Friday. Richard was born May 3, 1932 in Redford Twp., the son of William and Eileen (Mulvihill) Thorne. Richard attended Redford High School and graduated from Cass Tech. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Richard was married to Marie Michalski on December 7, 1956 in Angola, IN. He had been employed by Trio Tool, TRW and Thorne Tooling and was involved with the first rocket going to the Moon, Apollo 11 which landed July 20, 1969. He worked at GM Ternstedt from 1972-1989, then at Saturn until his retirement in 1996. Following retirement, he worked at Hi-Tech Mold & Engineering in Winchester, TN. Surviving are: daughters, Cynthia Warda and husband Stephen of St. Johns, Deborah Anderson and husband John of Swartz Creek; grandson, Nicholas of St. Johns; sister, Patricia Taylor of Livonia; many nieces and nephews; special friend, his dog, Hannah.
