SWANSON, Richard "Dick" Roxbury -age 80, of Swartz Creek, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2009. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." (Psalm 116:15). Dick was born to the late Barney and Ada (Roxbury) Swanson in Flint, MI on December 8, 1929. He was a life-long resident of Flint. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior during his years in the Army, and served the Lord faithfully until his death. He married Lois Faye Kline on August 17, 1957, and they recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. He received a bachelor of theology degree in 1959 and a bachelor degree in religious education in 1960, both from the Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. He also attended Eastern Michigan University. He worked for General Motors as the Chevrolet Metal Fab. and retired in June, 1992, after 42 years of service as a tool and die maker. He taught a variety of Bible and other courses at Flint Bible Institute for the past 35 years. He was an avid runner and was a cancer survivor of 16 years. Dick served the Lord faithfully for many years at the Faith Baptist Church in Davison and at other churches in the Flint area. He served positions of deacon, chairman of the board, Sunday school superintendent and visitation director. He was currently a member of North Baptist Church in Flint. In addition to his wife, Lois, Dick is survived by: daughter, Cheryllyn S,. Scruton and husband, Fred of Cranesville, PA; son, Mark J. Swanson and wife, Sara of Greer, SC; two grandchildren, Laura Beth and Jonathan Swanson of Greer, SC. He is also survived by: sister-in-law, Cecilia Swanson of Port Charlotte, FL and several special cousins and nieces. He was preceded in death by: his brother, Ken Swanson and granddaughter, Allison Joy Swanson. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The funeral will be on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3 PM at the funeral home. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Flint Bible Institute.
