PHILIPS, Richard Ira -- Age 80, of Durand, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Genesys Hospice Care Center with loved ones at his side. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Friday, December 10 at St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church, 2439 S. Long Lake Rd., Fenton, Fr. Paul Jannakos officiating. Visitation will be 11 AM - 3 PM and 5-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church. He was a Korean War veteran who met his wife Shuko while stationed in Japan. He retired from Johnson Controls in Corunna and was an avid golfer, bowler, and gardener. Richard was a humble, honest and hardworking man; a devoted husband, father, and Papa whose unconditional love and support will be forever cherished and missed. He is survived by son Paul (Gail) Philips, daughter Elizabeth Shaw; grandchildren Summer (Brad) Stevens, Courtney (Justin) Gawne, Lauren May and Nathan Shaw; great-granddaughter Olivia Gawne; sister Luella Philips, Ruth Frazier, and Marie Frazier; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Shuko; brothers, Ed and Lowell; and sister Marion. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
