JOHNSON, Richard K. - age 78, of Flint Township, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 23, 2009 at Brian's House Hospice. Services will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. William Christensen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 6-8 PM Friday and 10:30 AM until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that contributions be made to the Swartz Creek Lions Club, Leader Dogs for the Blind or VASA Club. Richard was born October 15, 1931 in Muskegon Heights, the son of Arthur E. and Cynthia A. (Derryberry) Johnson. He had resided in the Flint area since 1960. He was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School and Michigan State University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Business. Richard married Marilyn Clarice Johnson September 26, 1958 in Kalamazoo and she preceded him in death April 26, 1987. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War serving aboard the U.S.S. Monrovia. He retired in 1986 from Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing as First Quality of Work Life Coordinator at Pressed Metal. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Chevrolet Post #3087 and a member of the American Legion AC Post #366. He also was a member and past president of Swartz Creek Lions Club; he had been past zone chairman, past secretary and has held all chairs in the club. He was past chairman and member of VASA of Genesee County (The Swedish Club), a member of EEA Dalton Airport and Genesee Landlord Association. Surviving are: children, Faith (Johnson) Ellis of Davison, Laurie and husband, Michael Katerberg of Swartz Creek, Charles Johnson and wife, Melissa of Loveland, OH; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; three brothers, James Duvall of Muskegon, Charles Johnson of Muskegon, Arthur Johnson and wife, Kay of Flushing; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Brian's House Hospice and Chaplain Goodman Cox.
