Visitation will also be held from 10 AM - 11 AM Wednesday at the church. Jim and his twin brother, Clinton Gerald “Jerry” were born in Detroit on November 8, 1941 to Dick and Betty Drummond. They joined their older sister Mary Patricia “Patsy.” Their family moved 7 times over the course of their young life. Their mother was a wonderful cook, homemaker, artist and crafts person. Their father was always able to find a job. This entailed moving seven times during their early life. They often drove cross country in their car in that quest. During their grade school days, the family settled in Sidney, Ohio where their father had a steel treating business. Jim and Pat recall breaking up black walnuts with a hammer from the family yard so their mother could make black walnut cake. The boys were faithful newspaper carriers, the first to pick up their papers and deliver them. The newspaper, the Sidney Dailey, recognized the boys for their good service by printing their picture and writing a short story. That routine changed for a short time when their father observed them racing their bikes down “the big hill” and into traffic. This was so they could be first to get their papers. The boys had to deliver their papers on foot for a time. After moving to Covington, Ohio for high school, Jim and Jerry became much in demand as caddies at the Piqua, golf course. After graduation, Jerry joined the Army and slightly later Jim joined the Navy. A tragic accident cut short Jerry’s life and forever changed the family. After completing his service, Jim attended Flint Junior College and then the University of Michigan, Flint. After graduating, Jim married Susan K. St. Laurent of Bay City. Their Marriage lasted 56 years, thanks to the grace of God. Christopher and later Kevin and Marirose were born. Jim taught school for a year and then hired into Buick as a “college graduate in training” to work with computers. When Jim retired he was an account manager with EDS. Some employees called him “the best boss they ever had.” Jim loved God, his wife and family, and being very helpful and active. When he joined the Knights of Columbus his life truly changed. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Mary Queen of Angels Church. He spent many hours volunteering at the Swartz Creek Senior Center as a Senior Tax Aid and Medicare/Medicaid Advisor. He loved golf and always hoped to have a hole in one. That hope was never satisfied. Other activities he enjoyed were bicycling, walking, swimming and running. Jim completed many Crim and Tuuri races locally. At age 50, Jim completed the Columbus, Ohio Marathon (26.2 miles) and “don’t forget the point 2.” Despite struggling with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Congestive Heart Failure, Jim managed to keep active and involved until recently. He is survived by his wife, sons, Christopher of Rapid City, Michigan and Kevin of Swartz Creek, daughter Marirose, her husband, Kurt and grandson Landon Movinski of Canton, Michigan. Also surviving are sister, Patricia and Raymond Lang of Eloy, Arizona and their children Scott Lang of Roseville and Lisa and husband Tim Ahlgren of Canton, Michigan. Great nephews are Mathew and Mitchell Lang, and Ryan and Connor Ahlgren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Swartz Creek Area Senior Citizen Center, the Knights of Columbus Charities, Council 6694, or to a charity of your choice.
