HIGBEE, Richard Duane of Swartz Creek, MI. Age 82. Died on February13, 2005. Visiting hours will be Monday, February 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM and Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek.  Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church-Elca, 4040 Lapeer Road, Burton, MI. Pastor Susan Lidums will be officiating. Burial will be at The Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI at a later date. Mr. Higbee was born in Flushing, MI. on September 3, 1927. Son of Clarence J. and Mildred Mae (Clark) Higbee. Mr. Higbee has been a resident of Swartz Creek, MI. since October 25, 1959. Mr. Higbee married Katherine Rebecca Shealy of South Carolina on October 4, 1947 at St. James Lutheran Church-Elca in (Summit) Batesburg/Leesville, S.C.  Mr. Higbee served in World War II as a Sergeant in The United States Regular Army and was honorably discharged. He was a paid-up for life member of the National American Legion and Fisher Body Post 342 of Flint, MI. He was a paid life member of the Nationnale La Societe  of 40 Hommes ET 08 Cheaxaux and Voiture Local 1116 Genesee County, MI.. Mr. Higbee was employed by the U.S. Civil Service as an Inspector-Mechanic at Fort Jackson, S.C. for two years. He was hired by Buick Motor Division, Buick Engineering Department, GMC on September 27, 1949 and retired as a Senior Analyst with 33 years of service on October 1, 1982. Mr. Higbee was a charter member of Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church-Elca, joining on February 24, 1957 in Burton, MI. He held positions as Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, Vice-President of the Church Council and Lay Worship Assistant. Surviving are: Wife; Katherine, daughters; Sharon K. Strnad of Swartz Creek, MI., Zandra J. and husband Robert C. Simons of Clio, MI. Two grandchildren; Joshua P. and wife Jennifer Simons of Grand Blanc, MI., Mary R. Simons of Clio, MI. sister; Germaine E. and husband Billy B. Knox of Flushing, MI. sister-in-laws; Margaret V. Shealy and Frieda S. Taylor of S.C. two nieces, three nephews, two great nieces, four great nephews, and one great niece.  Mr. Higbee was preceded in death by his parents.  Friends may share an online condolence with the family at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those desiring make contributions to the Church.
