Richard Butzler

BUTZLER, Richard James - age 78, died November 29, 2018 after his seven year battle with effects of a stroke and Parkinson's Disease. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Dr. Gary Glanville officiating. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Tuesday and 9 AM - 10 AM Wednesday at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Swartz Creek Area Firefighter's Association. Richard was born on January 20, 1940 in the same home in which he passed away. He was a graduate of Swartz Creek High School Class of 1958 and the Missouri School of Auctioneers. Richard devoted his entire life to farming the family farm. As well, he was a volunteer firefighter in Swartz Creek for twenty-one years and at various times worked at General Motors, U.S. Post Office, USDA, hauling livestock and Penske Trucking. Richard enjoyed attending farm and cattle auctions, county 4-H fairs, and many cups of coffee with his friends and family. Richard is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Sylvia; children, Bethany (Dale) Link, Jennifer Vanwormer (Rod Gardner), Rebecca (Steve) Tabit, all of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, Jacob Adams (McKenzie), Joshua Adams, Sawyer Tabit, Dawson Tabit, Kathleen Vanwormer, and Dustin Link; brother, Larry (Jeri Lynne) Butzler of Vernon; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Richard was preceded in death by: infant son, Richard James, Jr.; infant daughter, Sandra Kay; parents, Kathleen and James Butzler; grandparents, William and Gertrude Kranz; and infant brother, Dennis. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Heidi and Melissa of the Medical Team, Dr. Jitendra Katneni, the McLaren Hospital staff and friends for their kindness and compassion in caring for Richard throughout his illness.
