NEWBERRY, Rex Bradford - Age 53, of Millington, formerly of Linden, died Monday, February 21, 2005. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Pastor Donald Neuville officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3-8 PM Thursday and Friday. A V.F.W. memorial service will be held 7 PM Friday under the auspices of Linden V.F.W. Post 4642. Contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society or the dog rescue group of your choice. Rex was born November 11, 1951 in Flint the son of Howard and Betty (Simm) Newberry. He had spent his entire life in Linden prior to moving to Millington last summer. Rex graduated from Linden High School in 1970 and then joined the Marines. He served in military intelligence during the Vietnam war with pride for 3 years. When Rex returned home he went to work for General Motors at Grand Blanc where he would have retired in September after 30 years of loyal employment. He married the love of his life, Dr. Julie Sawade and together had daughters, Jamie Newberry and Ella (Troy) Goodwin. Rex and Julie were devoted animal lovers. They were staunch supporters of the Boxer Rescue program. They saved numerous boxers by rescuing them from homes where they were abused or no longer wanted. Rex and Julie are members of Linden Presbyterian Church and he was a life member of the Linden V.F.W. Post #4642. He leaves to cherish and treasure the memories of him in his wife, Julie; daughters and son-in-law; sisters, Marsha Spears, Mary (Ken) Nelson; brother, Craig (Janiece) Newberry; father-in-law, James Sawade; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Sawade Witthuhn, Carol Maxwell; brother-in-law, Mark Sawade.
