VICKREY, Rebecca A. "Elaine" - Age 76, of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, with Evangelists Paul and Carol Ross officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Elaine was born in London, Ontario, Canada on January 14, 1933. She graduated from the London Teachers' College, then moved to the University of Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music where she earned her Performer's Degree in piano, then her Teacher's Degree in piano from the University of Western Ontario. She taught elementary students until she married in 1958. She was a homemaker and mother, and she shared her gift of music by serving as the church organist at the Community of Christ Church, where she has been a member since childhood. She dedicated herself to the service of others through working with faith based groups to provide assistance to the elderly, home bound, needy children and families, and others as her time and talents permitted. She was particularly dedicated to the betterment to the lives of children, in part by teaching Sunday school and baptism preparation. She was ordained as an Elder in 1989, and was a member of Church Women United for 15 years where she served a term as president, and as an Area Chair for the State Board. She was selected to be honored as a "Valiant Woman" in 1994, and served as Pastor of the Westwood Heights Community of Christ Church from 1994 to 1996. After nearly 40 years of residency, she sought and was granted citizenship of the United States. She was a loving mother and doting "Nana", and a special friend to too many to count. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, and by her loving husband of 45 years, Joseph "Bill" Vickrey. She is survived by her son, Richard and wife Kathy Vickrey of Swartz Creek; her daughter, Mary Ellen Vickrey of Davison; 4 grandchildren, Richard and Nicholas Girod, and Taylor and Austin Vickrey; and one great grandchild, Rylee Girod; and her very special friends Jim McBride, Glennie Benz, and Shirley Campbell.
