DEEDS, Raymond S. - Age 76, of Linden, died Friday, March 4, 2011 at his residence following a battle with lung cancer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 6481 Faussett Road, Howell. Fr. Gregg Pleiness celebrating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Sunday from 4-8 PM, Monday from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A prayer service will be held 7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to St. Augustine (St. Vincent DePaul Fund) or to the family for donation to Kettering University. Ray was born November 10, 1934 in Detroit, the son of Stanley and Stella (Leja) Deeds. He was a 1952 graduate of Holy Redeemer Catholic High School in Detroit and later served in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Yvonne "Yonnie" Memering on June 30, 1956 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Belleville. Ray received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Lawrence Technological University and enjoyed a 32 year career at Ford Motor Company. He retired in 1988 as Engineering Supervisor in the Climate Control Division. In addition, he and Yonnie developed and operated the Indian Wilderness Park Campground near Howell, hosting summer nights around the campfire for over twenty years. Ray was a devoted volunteer serving as Charter President of the Canton Jaycees, President of the Goodfellows, Canton Township Trustee, Deerfield Township Planning Commission member, and organizer of many church and community events. He loved the outdoors-hunting, fishing, camping, mushrooming, and time at his cabin in Atlanta, MI. In his retirement years, Ray spent the summers following the Detroit Tigers and the winters in Ft. Pierce, FL or traveling the world. He cruised the oceans from Spain to Florida and from Australia to New Zealand, traveled to Japan, Europe and all 50 states. Ray's happiest moments were with family and friends, telling a funny little story or big gut-busting joke. He will be missed by all. Surviving are: wife, Yonnie; 3 sons, Dan Deeds and wife Paula, A.J. Deeds and girlfriend Kyle Morgan, Doug Deeds and wife Tina; 2 daughters, Julie Foddrill and husband Brian, Jennifer Johnson and husband Brett; 13 grandchildren, Vontrese, Stefanie, Joe, Ben, Marshall, Elliot, Nate, Carson, Wyatt, Matt, Stella, Sophia and Sadie Rae; 2 brothers, Ernie Deeds and Ken Deeds and wife Sue; and many brother and sister in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
