CASWELL, Raymond D. - Age 99, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023 with his wife at his side. Ray was a proud veteran of the Army, serving during WWII in Papua, New Guinea. He retired from SD Warren-Scott Paper in Muskegon after 39 years, where he worked his way up from the pulp mill to the computer operator the largest paper finishing machine within the mill operation. He and his wife, Louise met in their senior years in Muskegon and following retirement, they moved to Punta Gorda, FL where they enjoyed a full social life. They were active in First Christian Church of Punta Gorda. Ray volunteered as the church gardener and grounds keeper. Years ago he donated three very large crosses just before Easter and they are still on the church grounds. Ray was an avid reader. He read the Bible daily and went to Bible Study weekly. Ray was a master gardener. He loved flowers and plants and could grow almost anything. He was devoted to God and his family. Ray is survived by his wife of 28 years, Louise; daughter, Kathy Caswell; son, Scott Caswell; step-children, Robert (Rene) Slagle, Bonnie (Matt) Mrasek, William Slagle and Barb (Phil) Johnson; step-grandchildren, Stacey (Steve) Barnes, Bernie (Toni) Byrnes, Robert (Lisa) Slagle, Jr., Jeremy (Elly) Kennedy, Cassia (Mike) Luttrullm and Joshua Dobrowolski; many step great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his entire family. Private services will be held at a later time. Those desiring may make a contribution to their local VFW, American Legion, American Heart Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society or charity of their choice.
