Raymond Albert BETCHER

BETCHER, Raymond Albert - Age 88, of Linden, died Sunday, January 30, 2011. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Linden United Methodist Church, 201 Bridge St, Linden, with Pastor Margo Kivisto officiating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden, Friday and Saturday from 1-4 and 6-8 PM and at church Sunday from 1:00 PM until time of service. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Betcher was born March 23, 1922 in Detroit, the son of Albert and Rachel (Flynn) Betcher. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp; he served in the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 467th BG. He was a mechanic on the B-24 Bomber named "Witchcraft", which flew over 130 missions and had the best record for number of missions flown of all B-24s in the entire 8th Air Force. He married Doris Torrey August 29, 1943 in Mt. Clemens and she preceded him in death July 23, 1991, he then married Opal Young May 8, 1993 in Gaylord and she preceded in death December 19, 2003. Mr. Betcher retired from Borg Warner Corporation and had worked for Dana Corporation in Toledo for many years. He was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church and the Linden V.F.W. Post #4642. Surviving are: 3 children, Gary and wife Joan Betcher of Phoenix, AZ, Janice and husband Jim Bates of Dexter and Sun City, AZ and Nancy Davis of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren, Heather and husband Keith Robertson of Ann Arbor, Greg Betcher of Phoenix, AZ, Jon and wife Jennifer Betcher of Salt Lake City, UT, Jaime and husband Jason Cook of Peoria, AZ and Nakoa Davis of Scottsdale, AZ; 8 great grandchildren.
