ANDERSON, Raymond Carl Jr. - Age 79, of Linden, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, with Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 PM Sunday, 2-5 & 7-9 PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. A rosary will be prayed 7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Raymond was born September 23, 1928 in Bordentown, NJ, the son of Raymond C. and Mary (Currie) Anderson. He was married to Margaret M. Dillon at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Trenton, NJ on January 9, 1954. He was a graduate of Trenton Catholic High School and attended St. Francis Seminary on Staten Island. He had lived in the Fenton/Linden area since 1966. He played semi-professional baseball in 1949-1950, where he was the pitcher for the Philadelphia Athletics. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of the US Army, during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged as Master Sergeant. He received the Freedom Medal for Service from the president of South Korea.He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Burton from 1954-1964 and helped start the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Mr. Anderson was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. He was President of Catholic Social Services in Flint for two years and help start Catholic Charities of the Lansing Diocese at the request of Bishop Povish. Mr. Anderson retired as Director of Materials Management from Fisher Body/Ternstedt Division of General Motors Coldwater Road Plant. He was past president of Delta Nu Alpha Traffic Organization and was instrumental in the GM/Toyota joint venture start up in Fremont, CA. He was also credited with many innovations in the transport industry. His social activism following retirement included volunteering for the North End Soup Kitchen, Battered Womens Shelter through St. Michael, and hospice for AIDS patients. Surviving are: wife, Margaret; four daughters, Margaret Mary Telgenhoff, Mary Elizabeth (Robert) Guilbault, Catherine Mary Anderson, Patricia Mary (Richard) Thayer all of Fenton; four sons, Raymond C. III (Jill) of Cleveland, OH, Francis P. (Billie) of Belton, TX, Matthew J. (Mary Beth) of Beaverton, OR, Christopher J. (Angela) of Katy, TX; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim of Barnaget, NJ, Frank and wife Ruth of Bethesda, MD.
