ADAMS, Raymond Layton - age 65, of Swartz Creek, died suddenly, Monday, October 8, 2007. Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Larry Survance officiating. Interment will follow at Montrose Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where a Masonic Memorial will be held 7 PM under the auspices of Montrose Lodge # 428 F & AM. Ray was born June 26, 1942 with his twin brother, Robert in Flint, the son of Jack and Elaine (Bronson) Adams. He was a 1962 graduate of Montrose High School. Ray married his high school sweetheart and best friend Sally Westfall on November 5, 1966. Ray hired into the Swartz Creek Police Department in 1970 and was named Chief of Police in 1975. During his career as Chief, Ray was extremely influential with the youth of the Swartz Creek Community. He started the Inky Fingers Gang which was a program dedicated to fingerprinting the children. The first Swartz Creek Hometown Days was named "Ray Day". To know Ray was to love him, he was a man of integrity and was known as an "all around good guy". Surviving are: wife of 40 years, Sally; two sons, Donald Adams and wife, Jamie of Swartz Creek, William Adams and wife, Rhonda of Port Huron; four grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Alicia and McKenna; sister, Janet Pyne and husband, Vic of Harrison; mother-in-law and biggest fan, Carrinda Westfall; sister-in-law, Bonnie Adams of Montrose; brother-in-law, Dick Westfall and wife, Barb of Montrose; several special nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by: his twin brother, Robert Adams three weeks ago, his parents and his father-in-law, William W. Westfall; niece, Debra Jean Pyne.
