STEWARD, Ralph Landon - Age 86, of Fenton, passed away September 11, 2024 with his family by his side at Genesys Hospital. Funeral Service 11:00 AM Monday, September 16, 2024, at Fenton United Methodist Church 119 S. Leroy Street, Fenton. Pastor Jeff Jaggers officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM-5:00 PM and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Sunday September 15, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton and 10:00AM until time of service on Monday. A Lions Club Service will be held 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Interment 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 17 in Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Rd, Holly. If you would like to follow to the cemetery in procession, please meet at the funeral home by 9:45 am on Tuesday. Memorial Contributions in Ralph's memory would be appreciated to Fenton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
Ralph was born February 27, 1938, in Flint, to Cleo W. and Marie C. (Anglen) Steward. He married Frances Ann Fockler in Fenton on July 29, 1961. Ralph graduated from Fenton High School in 1956. He later graduated from CMU in 1967 with a B.A. and 1968 with his M.A. Ralph proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. He taught Music and English for 28 years serving 5 years with the Mt. Pleasant Schools, 5 years with the Lake Fenton Schools and 18 years at Fenton Middle School where he was also the Choir Director. Ralph was a member of the MEA, FEA, and NEA and the Phi Mu Alpha International Music Fraternity. He was a long-time member of Fenton United Methodist Church, where he also served as the Choir Director and a member of the Bell Choir. Ralph also was a member of the Fenton Lions Club and served as a Fenton City Councilman from 1974-1978. He also served as a member of the Fenton Beautification Committee and the Fenton High School Alumni Association. Ralph enjoyed cruising, gardening, bowling, and 'worshiping the sun," Music was his passion.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Frances Ann Steward; sons, Bradley J. (Denise), Todd L. (Tracy) Steward; daughter, Jennifer M. (Randy) Mitchell; grandchildren, Alexander T. (Amanda) Steward, Emily (Aaron) Steward, Cale J. Mitchell, Brady L. Mitchell, Natalie P. Steward, and Travis L. Steward; great grandson, Theodore Steward.
