STARNES, Rachel Ann - Age 89, passed away October 18, 2020. Burial will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Those desiring may make contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Rachel was born on August 1, 1931 in Mint Hill, North Carolina, the daughter of Vance C. and Ruth Lee (Carriker) Mullis. She was known for her feisty spirit and her love of bringing comfort to all, Rachel was at her best when someone was in need. Ranging from preparing enough food to feed an army to providing care in her clients’ last hours. Her husband John is known as the “Garage Door Man,” but Rachel was known for her gift for gab as that nice southern lady that kept John on track and kept the records straight. Rachel’s close relationship with her siblings, especially her sister Vera, always kept part of her heart in North Carolina. In her later years, Rachel absolutely loved her grandchildren and glowed in their presence and loved to talk about them in their absence. She will be dearly missed by all.
Rachel is survived by her husband, John W. Starnes; children, Doug (Robbyn) Starnes, Edward (Lori) Starnes and Kathy (Douglas) Funk; grandchildren, Bradley, Eric, and Steven (Elizabeth) Starnes, Sarah (Jeremy) Swartz, Lindsay Miller, and Adam Funk; great grandchildren, Kali and Carter Swartz; sisters, Vera, Doris, Joyce, Jo, and Sylvia; brothers, Dale and James; sister-in-law, Linda. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ruth Ann Starnes; brothers, V.C., Harvey, Kenneth, Jack, and Gene. The family would like to give a special thanks to Grace Hospice and Almost Home Assisted Living in Fenton.
