GALLENBECK, Rachel M. - age 94, of Flint, died Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Fostrian Manor. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Jim Pike officiating. Visitation will be held 1 PM - 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation and committal service will take place 1:30 PM - 2 PM Monday, June 5, 2017 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, IN. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Carmen Ainsworth Senior Center. Mrs. Gallenbeck was born June 27, 1922 in Plainfield, IN, the daughter of Leoderous L. and Bertha M. (Osborn) Pike. She married Robert B. Gallenbeck on April 30, 1945 in Plainfield. IN and he preceded her in death on November 1, 1974. Mrs. Gallenbeck was a business teacher at Swartz Creek Community Schools for 30 years retiring in 1982. When she began teaching the school was offering shorthand and continued on to teaching accounting. Mrs. Gallenbeck was very instrumental in the business curriculum at Swartz Creek High School. She convinced the Board of Education that many students needed additional training to secure employment. As a result, many students went directly from high school to good paying positions as executive secretaries. Mrs. Gallenbeck was very gratified that over the years many of her students would come back to visit her. Surviving are: like a son, Rev. Bill McBride of Port Huron; two granddaughters, Kerri Gallenbeck of Flint and Shannon Gallenbeck of Davenport, IA; great-grandson, Kevin Brunner of Flint; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and special friend, Madeline Bright. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two sons, R. Bruce and Steven C. Gallenbeck; six brothers; and three sisters.
