Phyllis Jones

JONES, Phyllis Brown - Age 100, of Swartz Creek, died Friday, July 1, 2022.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:00 PM Friday, July 22, 2022 at St. John Catholic Church, 404 Dayton St., Davison.  Fr. Andrew Czajkowski celebrant.  Visitation will be held at the church from 11 AM Friday until the time of the Mass. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly 9:30 AM Monday, July 25, 2022.  Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek.  Those desiring may make contributions to the Old Newsboys of Flint or Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties.

Phyllis was born May 13, 1922 in Bad Axe, the daughter of Earl William and Mabel Evelyn (Clements) Brown.  She married Leroy William Jones October 17, 1945 in Wilkes Barre, PA and he preceded her in death April 16, 2001.  She received her nursing degree from Mott Community College. For the past 6 years she was a resident of Swartz Creek and was a prior resident of Flint and Washington D.C. and was born and raised in Bad Axe.   Phyllis had been employed by Hudson Motor Company in Detroit during WWII working as a Rosie the Riveter. she also had worked for Bell Telephone and she retired from St. Joseph Hospital as a LPN. She was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. She was a seamstress and enjoyed traveling, bingo, needlepoint, and quilting. Phyllis was a Detroit Tigers fan.

Surviving are: her children, Sharon Lee (Daniel) Stainton of Swartz Creek, Jean Evelyn Ayers of New Port Richey, FL, Maurine Kay Summers of Flint, Delores Ann Sczepczenski of Swartz Creek, Tina Marie Millard of Houghton Lake, Drew Michael (Karen) Jones of Hudson, FL, and David Mark (Rhonda) Jones of Pleasant Prairie, WI; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; special family, Steve Derscha and Taylor Derscha; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Sheldon Jones; grandson Robby Millard; sons-in-law, William Ayers and Edgar Summers; brothers, Charles, Doc, and Calvin Brown; and sisters, Doris Meyer, Jean Davis, and Peggy Champagne.  The family would like to especially thank the Medical Team Hospice- Claudia, Kim, Keisha and the entire team.  Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
