Phyllis was born on April 9, 1945, in Flint, Michigan to the late Frederick & Geraldine Beckwith as the second of four daughters. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1963. Her first job was with AC Spark Plug where she worked for nearly eight years before deciding to stay at home and raise a family. She married the love of her life, John Demura on June 24, 1967, in Flint, Michigan with whom she celebrated 56 joyous years of marriage this past June. In addition to being a loving and devoted wife, she had two boys, Johnny and Phillip, who were her world. As a family, they enjoyed many summer days in Northern Michigan where they shared a love of the great outdoors. She would later add four beautiful grandchildren to her world, as well as two great grandchildren, all of whom she showered with the love, kindness, attention and amazing cooking that has become a large part of her legacy. Family was always her number one priority and she especially enjoyed making lavish holiday meals and would even take custom orders from grandchildren as to which desserts they would like to appear on her menu. She could be found cheering for and supporting her loved ones at every event she could possibly attend from sporting events, to first communions, to graduations to recitals. And if she couldn't be there, she always called to hear about the event and listened with pride as her children or grandchildren shared their stories. She could always be counted on to send a card and a special message for even the simplest of occasions such as Valentine's Day and Halloween and she never missed a birthday or anniversary. Phyllis enjoyed ceramics and crafts during her younger years, alongside her leisurely walks, bicycle rides, and then gardening, and the art of canning. Yet, her paramount joy was found in the embrace of family. Her adoration for grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds, as she showered them with love and affection at every possible opportunity. Simply said, Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her and experience her love.
She is survived by her husband, John Demura; two sons, John (Becky Webber) Demura and Phillip (Lanie) Demura; four grandchildren, Chelsea (Alaa) Mansour, John-John Demura, Madelyn Demura and Avery Demura; two great-grandchildren, Aliyah Mansour and Amirah Mansour; three sisters, Lil Karstens, Linda (Mike) Lang and Sue Taeckens; her daughter-in-law, Michelle Demura, Goddaughter Kathy Adams, and her sisters-in-law, Diane, Dorothy and Pearl. Phyllis is further survived by many other dear family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, John & Evelyn Demura and three brothers-in-law, Jerry, Jerome and Joe.
