PFC Benjamin Thomas Groat

GROAT, PFC Benjamin Thomas - Age 28, of Ft. Benning, GA formerly of Swartz Creek, died Saturday January 22, 2011. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint, with Pastor Don Phillips officiating. Burial immediately following at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 5-9 PM, Friday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Benjamin T. Groat Memorial Fund. Benjamin was born August 31, 1982 in Flint, the son of Timothy Chester and Tina Jean (Brewer) Groat. He was a 2001 graduate of Carman-Ainsworth High School and received an Associates Degree in Aeronautics from Willow Run Airport. He married Amanda Mitzler July 3, 2003 in Traverse City. He was serving in the U.S. Army and had just returned from serving 9 months in Iraq. Surviving are: wife, Amanda; parents, Timothy and Tina Groat of Swartz Creek; brother, Jeremiah and wife Lorena Groat of Holly; niece, Emmalie Groat of Holly; grandparents, Ron and Joyce Groat of The Villages, FL and Thomas Brewer of Swartz Creek; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
