SHAW, Percy B. - Age 79, of Swartz Creek, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery where veterans honors will be performed under the auspices of Swartz Creek VFW/AmVets. Visitation will be held 7-9 PM Monday, 1-9 PM Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Diabetes Association or Avalon Hospice. Percy was born October 18, 1928 in Swartz Creek, the son of Bernard L. and Melvina (Schooley) Shaw. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (1945-1947) serving in the Marshall Islands. He was married to Carleta I. Alexander on July 17, 1948 in Fenton. Mr. Shaw had resided in Swartz Creek most of his life. He coached his son's baseball team and served as commissioner of the Swartz Creek Baseball League for several years. Â He was a recipient of the Edward Pavlica Memorial Award. He was also the secretary of two bowling leagues for over 25 years. Mr. Shaw worked as a milkman for Gilbert's Dairy and had worked for the Swartz Creek Elevator. Surviving are: wife, Carleta; three daughters, Christine "Tina" Shaw, Nancy Shaw both of Swartz Creek, Cindy (Bruce) Dunton of Flint; daughter-in-law, Ginger Shaw; sister, Eloise Starkey of Fenton; grandson, Joshua Shaw of Flint; step grandson, Bruce Dunton Jr. of Utica; step great-grandchildren, Logan, Cole and Karlee Dunton of Royal Oak. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ray, Guy, Howard, Alice, Ruby and his son, David Shaw.
