SMITH, Paul Dean ï¿Â½" Age 63, of Burton was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on April 9, 2010 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Paul was born November 4, 1946 in Flint, the son of Dean and Shirley (Clark) Smith. He married Gloria J. Robinson January 9, 2000 in Burton. Paul retired from Buick City in 1999 and had previously worked at Fischer Body I for many years. He was a proud member of U.A.W. Local 599. Paul studied his Bible daily, attended Davison Free Methodist Church and was the youngest Elder at Farnumwood Presbyterian Church. Fishing was his second religion. Paul enjoyed baseball, hockey, music, photography, traveling and making others laugh. Paul found the most joy spending time with his family and helping others. His special spark spread to everyone he met. One of the many lessons he taught us was ""you play the hand youï¿Â½(TM)re dealt and always go down swinging."" He fought with everything he had and never lost his faith in God, his medical team or himself. We were blessed to have him as a husband, father, teacher and mentor. Left to cherish his memory are: wife, Gloria J.; 6 children, Joel Dean Smith of Rose City, Ronni Lane and husband Thomas Bowyer of Reynoldsburg, OH, Brooke Susanne and husband Kody Tate of Flint, Kara Lianne and Christopher Ebbott of Flint, Allen Scott Robinson of Flint and Thomas Glenn and Claudia Robinson of Altus, OK; 8 grandchildren, Matthew Dean, Kole Hunter, Ian David, Lillianne Faye, Katarina Joelle, Kerianne Barbara, Dominick Thomas and Elizabeth Jane; mother Shirley Smith of Bad Axe; sisters Carol and Edward Adams of Burton and Marie and Dan Kiehl of Bad Axe and many nieces and nephews, mother and father in-laws Millie and Glen Robinson and Neal and Gladys Webster; Special Friends Daniel Bigsby, Stanley Hinkins, Neil Shumaker and Froggy. We will forever be grateful for the special care he received from Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Harper Hospital ICU staff. His children would like to thank his loving wife for her steadfast devotion. He was comforted and strengthened by the love and support of special friends, family and neighbors. To honor Paulï¿Â½(TM)s final wishes cremation has taken place and a formal service will not be held. We will forever remember his smile. Those desiring may make contribution to the Old Newsboys.
