Paul Blanchard

BLANCHARD, Dr. Paul David peacefully entered his eternal home in heaven on October 28,2019 at the age of 76. He was born on April 5, 1943 in Flint, Michigan to Floyd and Loretta (Welch) Blanchard. After graduating from Flint Northern High School in 1961, he attended Flint Junior College and The University of Michigan/Flint, graduating in 1965. He taught briefly at Beecher High School before continuing his education at Southern Illinois University where he earned a Master’s Degree and later his PhD from the University of Kentucky in 1970. Paul taught Political Science at Eastern Kentucky University for 38 years and retired as Professor Emeritus in 2008. After moving back to Michigan, he and his wife, Mary (Peggy), have been very active in the Flushing community. Besides his beloved wife, Peggy (Donigan/Curtis) Blanchard, Paul leaves one son, Brian (Erika) Blanchard of Merritt Island, FL and one granddaughter, Ava, two step-sons: Geoff Curtis of Flushing, and Brian (Missy) Curtis of Tega Cay, SC and five step-grandsons: Colin, Nicolas, Mathieu, Ben and Joey. He is also survived by one sister, Patricia (Kenneth) Nelson of Lapeer, MI. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and a daughter, Jaclyn (Blanchard) Stephens. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at the Flushing United Methodist Church on December 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by his pastor, JJ Mannschreck, with a luncheon to follow. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 a.m. that day. A special thanks to the staff of Western Hills Living and Heartland Hospice for their gift of compassionate care.
