Patricia Gould

July 28, 1925 — May 23, 2019

Our mother, Patricia Gould passed away May 23, 2019 after a short illness. She was the mother to four sons and daughters-in-law, grandmother to nine and great grandmother to eight She and her husband Curtis Gould were proud members of America's Greatest Generation having lived through the depression of the 30's, World War II and the post war growth of the American economy. Never one to complain, upon returning from the hospital last week with a cracked pelvis, she was asked how she was feeling - "Just fine, no problems here" was how she responded. "Nothing new or different to report" Patricia Murphy was born July 28, 1925 in Grand Haven, Michigan. She had three sisters and a brother. Pat followed in her mother Roslyn's footsteps and graduated from Michigan State University. Later, she taught school in Fowlerville while Curt finished at MSU. After which she retired to dedicate her life to her husband and her sons. Upon moving to Fenton in 1956, Patricia became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fenton and remained active in leadership roles until her recent illness. Her sons have fond memories of being scrubbed clean and marched down LeRoy Street on Sunday morning to perform usher duties. Patricia sent four sons and three grandsons through Fenton High School and all were active in athletics. Patricia deserves recognition as a Super Fan in the Fenton High School Athletic Hall of Fame for all the hours she spent sitting in the bleachers at football, basketball and track events, plus time spent in folding chairs along the baseball diamonds. Pat liked to do crossword puzzles, sudoku and word searches. She was often found reading a variety of books. She has been part of a weekly bridge club group of friends since 1956 and she looked forward to these gatherings for the fun of the game, the chatter of her friends and the treats that were provided. In addition, she enjoyed numerous activities at her church such as Book Binders. She continued to love her college alma mater and rooting for the Spartans (a family tradition started by her great-grandfathers who attended Michigan Agriculture College in the late 1860's). Patricia loved her family; she was an avid clipper of articles that she thought others would enjoy. Her sons, while away at college, could expect to receive a letter every Friday with a short note, clippings from the local paper and a five-dollar bill. After her sons married, she continued these letters but these were ostensibly addressed to her daughters-in-law who all agree that she was an exemplary mother-in-law. If one called or stopped at her home, she always thanked you for the call or visit Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Curtis and sons Bruce and Craig. Survivors include Mark and Cynthia Gould of Lowell, Michigan; David and Denise Gould of Gastonia, NC; Stella Gould of Holland, MI Surviving are Sisters, Lenore Gendron of Minnesota and Mary Lou (Jim) Barrett of Arizona.
