Newman, Norma "Jean" - Age 84, of Flint, went home to be with the Lord December 13, 2020. Private family funeral service will be held at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Grand Blanc. Jean was born November 8, 1936 in Zanesville, Ohio the daughter of Edward Vernon Guy and Catherine (Morgan) Guy. She married Paul D. Newman on May 24, 1958. Norma worked as a registered nurse at McLaren Hospital and Hurley Medical Center. She then taught nursing at Mott Community College. Jean retired as a nurse recruiter for Hurley Medical Center. She was very committed to the Flint community. Jean served on the Board of Directors for Child Welfare Society and Genesee County Community Mental Health. She also served on the Board of Directors for the YWCA and was facilitator for the Circle of Women annual fundraising event. Jean was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Haines City, FL, and very involved in their outreach programs. Jean was a supporter and a generous donor for the arts in the Flint community. She also was a member of the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, and the Red Hat Society. Jean never knew a stranger. She was a poet and an author. Jean had a passion for education and reading. She and her husband spent their winters in Haines City, FL for over 30 years at the Greenlefe Resort. Jean was an avid golfer and loved playing bridge. She organized the resort's library and many social functions. She had a very active social life. She loved to cook and travel. Jean loved to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and special events. Jean filled their home with love, laughter and warmth. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She trusted God wholly and completely her entire life. Norma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Paul Newman; 6 children, Dr. Vicki (Dr. Preston) Bodison of Bel Air, Maryland, Paula (Craig) Tucker of Las Vegas, Nevada, Valerie Newman of Flint, Paul D. (Laura) Newman II of Grand Blanc, Scott Newman of Flint, Sharri Newman of Flint; grandchildren, Ayo Bodison, Dayyan Hyat, Jason Newman, Jazzmyn Newman, Paul Newman III, Savanna Newman, Carl Newman, Jordan Newman, Scott Newman II, Shaquala Watson, Jeremiah Dial, Brianna Thornton, Jakara Murray-Newman, Janae Newman, Chelsea Newman Glover, and Marquan Smith; many great-grandchildren; god-children, Richelle Donaldson and Charlie Colquitt; The Donaldson Family; and sister, Marian (Thomas "Felix") Kelley.
