Norine Smith

SMITH, Norine - a long term resident of Fenton passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 at Genesee Care Center in Grand Blanc. Services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. Jude's Episcopal Church, 106 E. Elizabeth Street, Fenton. Visitation and condolences from 1-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Norine was born in Flint on February 5, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Charles (Chuck) Smith. Norine graduated from Flint Central High School in 1944. Hoping to serve in the war efforts, she received her nursing certificate from Grant Hospital Nursing School in Chicago. Norine will be missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her four children, nieces, six grand children and eleven great grand children. Doug Smith of Atlanta, Randy (Laura) Smith of White Lake, Bethany Smith-McCormick of Livermore, CA, and Darryl (Catherine) Smith of Houston TX. Beloved nieces, Pamela Dawson of Milford and Charlene (Norman) Clutts of Flushing. Beloved friends, Dalene and Joseph Van Houten of Grand Blanc. Grand children include; Matthew (Maria) Smith, Kristen (Shad) Selleck, Justin (Wendy) Smith, Andrew (Jennifer) Smith, Joseph (Kortnie) Prieto and Stephen (Stefanie) Smith. Great grand children include; Nicholas, Dimitriy, Natalie, Katherine, Hannah, Liam, Drake, Joseph, Justin Ava and Eli. Norine was an active member of St Jude's Episcopal church in Fenton for 22 years with previous memberships at Trinity Episcopal in Flushing and St. Paul's Episcopal church in Flint. Norine worked as a nurse at Genesee Memorial Hospital for 17 years retiring in 1982. She spent most of her life helping others through her nursing care and volunteer work. She served at Genesys Regional Medical Center for 13 years after retirement. Norine was fortunate to have traveled the world with friends and family. She loved celebrating life events with her family who live all around the country. Her quiet determination, sense of duty, sacrifice and humility leaves a tremendous legacy and will be missed by many.
