PETERS, Noreen Sylvia - Age 99, of Fenton, died Saturday, January 1, 2022. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life/100 birthday party will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to Adopt-A-Pet, 13575 Fenton Road, Fenton, MI 48430.
Noreen was born September 29, 1922 in Swifton, AR, the daughter of Thomas Homer and Nellie (Sexton) Eason. She married Roscoe Leroy Robbins in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1945 while serving his country in WWII. Before and after the death of her husband and still in her early 20’s and young mother, she worked at Fisher Body Tank Plant building tanks through the end of WWII. She was a fierce and strong woman raising a son by herself, ie a true Rosie the Riveter. Noreen lived most of her life in Flint, Mi and worked as a bartender/bar manager for about 30 years in local Flint bars. She loved this life because there was always something going on and lots of stories of ‘those things that happen in a bar’ to other people. Of course every story ended with ‘they’re dead now’. Once she retired from the bar scene she managed a Sunshine store on Court Street in Flint for about 10 years and retired again. Once in her 70’s, after she retired the 2nd time, she began working at Meijers as a customer service representative. Noreen finally retired at age 80 and was attempting to move to a senior living apartment close to her son, Larry Robbins, so he could keep on eye on her. Plans changed for her when in 2005, Larry would suffer a major stroke 4 days before retiring from the Fenton Police Dept. In 2006 when she was 83 years young, she moved to Fenton to become the main caregiver to her son which would become the most important, biggest and hardest job of her long life. She was the epitome of a devoted and loving mother and a true inspiration to all that had the privilege to know her. Noreen was the most stylish and gorgeous lady around town, with a fondness for animal print, the color red, big glasses and cute boots. One of her favorite things, besides her furry cats, were the Detroit Tigers. She was their #1 fan… never missing a game. Summer days were planned around Detroit Tigers game schedule. Noreen was a member of the Flint Township Senior Center on Graham Rd where she enjoyed playing Bingo and visiting the library. She was an avid reader of mysteries that involved lots of twists/turns and never came home from the library with less than 5 books/week. Noreen kept her passion of shopping for new cute jeans and boots right up to the end. She just purchased a new pair of navy and black ankle boots that she did not get to wear with any outfit yet.
