Nicholas Waskul

WASKUL, Nicholas W. - Age 93, of Fenton, formerly of Redford, died Thursday, April 20, 2017. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Fr. Gregg Pleiness officiating. Interment will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday, with a rosary service at 7 PM; and 10 AM - 12 PM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Born September 16, 1923, into a family that would grow to have 4 girls and 3 boys, they lived in Detroit with their parents William and Anna Waskul. Even though these were difficult times the family managed to flourish. Nick entered the Army in July of 1943, and started fighting in the European Theater of Operations in September of 1944. He served with the Reconnaissance Company of the 807th Tank Destroyer Battalion, then the Reconnaissance of the 638th Tank Destroyer Battalion, where he was affectionately called "Junior" by the older troops. Wounded in action in France in December of 1944, he returned home. Nick was awarded two Purple hearts, the American Theater, the European Theatre with 3 Battle Stars, the Good Conduct and WWII Victory Medal. Upon returning home and after recovery he entered the Henry Ford Apprentice Program. He fell in love with Rosalie James and they married April 30, 1949. Nick continued working for Ford Motor Company and was successful in clay modeling. He also continued his education achieving a B.A. from Wayne State University while supporting ten children. He enjoyed a long life of sharing with his family his love of scuba diving, waterskiing, fishing, different art mediums, antiques and history, paleontology, anthropology and astronomy. In 1980 Nick retired from Ford Motor Company as a Supervisor of Model Systems. He and Rose traveled throughout the U.S., including Hawaii, and Europe, Fiji, and Australia. They were also happy to spend time with their rapidly growing family. To Cherish his memory, Nicholas leaves his beloved wife of 68 years Rosalie; children, Patricia McDonnell (Steve), Nick Waskul (Mi Yung), Pamela Holmes (Dann), Rick Waskul (Cheryl and Christopher), Karen Pringle (Jeff), Brian Waskul (Cindy), and Cheryl Schaeffer (Andrew); 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
