Nathan Michael LUPPINO

LUPPINO, Nathan Michael, "Nate", age 80, passed on January 27, 2010 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at Grand Blanc United Methodist Church, 515 Bush Ave., Grand Blanc with Rev. G. Patrick England officiating. The family will receive friends 10AM Monday until time of service at church. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. A Son's of Italy service will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Genesee County Humane Society or the Grand Blanc United Methodist Church. Nate was born November 1, 1929 in Hurley, WI, the son of Sam and Mary (Barbera) Luppino. Following graduation from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1947, Nate earned a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1951 from the University of Wisconsin, Superior and later a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, Nate married Joan Johnson on Dec 29, 1956 at Montrose Methodist Church. Nate's career in education spanned 36 years, 31 of which were in the Flint Public Schools. Following his retirement in 1989, Nate and Joan spent their winters in Sarasota, FL where he was a member of University Park Country Club, Golf and Tennis Associations. He was also a member of St. James United Methodist Church. Nate participated in all types of recreational sports. He was a longtime member of the Son's of Italy, Lodge 851 in Flint. Above all, Nate cherished his family most. Nate leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Joan; son Norm of Sarasota, FL; daughter Suzanne (Don) Christie of Farmington Hills, MI; three grandchildren, Donald, James, and Jessica Christie; brother Angelo (Nancy) of Iron Belt, WI., two aunts (Frances Cahill and Catherine Hogsett, both of IL), a nephew, niece, several cousins, and many friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hyde Park for their loving care and support; and many additional thanks to Avalon Hospice.
