STOCKHAM, Nancy Heath - age 77, of Fenton, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Genesys Health Park. Services will be held 1 PM Saturday, May 9, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church of Fenton, 503 S. Leroy St., Fenton with Pastor Dale Swihart officiating. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton and 11 AM until the time of service Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whaley Children Center. Nancy was born August 15, 1931 in Gary, IN, the daughter of Rev. Hartley H. and Helen Hall (Heath) Stockham. Nancy had resided in Fenton since 1945 when her father became the Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Fenton. She earned her Bachelor of Sociology in 1954 from Alma College and a Master of Social Work from University of Michigan. Nancy was a social worker for Genesee Memorial Hospital, Genesee County Attorney's office and a caseworker with the Friend of the Court. She was the social worker for the City of Fenton for many years, as well. Nancy was Past-President and Vice President of the Genesee County Association of Retarded Children, past secretary-treasurer of McAvinchey Flint Area Day Care Centers for Retarded Children, She was a member of the following organizations, Questers Antique Club of Flint, 20 year member of the Hartland Music Hall Choir- presenting Handel's Messiah, Urban League of Flint, N.A.A.C.P., D.A.R., Fenton Historical Society, Pioneer Memorial Association of Fenton and Mundy Township, Fraternal Order of Police, Genesee County Lodge #145, John Brown Historical Society of PA, American Association University of Women, Fenton area Business and Professional Women's Club, National Association of Social Workers, national association Forensics Council. Nancy was named the Tri-County Woman of the Year in 1979, was nominated for Nina Mills Woman of Achievement Award in 1981, named B.P.W. Woman of the Year in 1982 and named the Citizen of the Year by the Fenton Independent in 1983. In 2000, Nancy received the Price Harris Fellowship Award from the Fenton Rotary, the Woman of the Year from the Fenton Chamber of Commerce, and was inducted into the Fenton Alumni Hall of Fame. Nancy also received the Distinguished Service Award for working with Educators by the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Liberty Ball Award in 1988 from the Genesee County Bar Association. Governor Milliken appointed her to the State Nursing Home Administrative Advisory Council in 1980. Nancy was also a very active volunteer with The Genesee County Association for Retarded Children, Goodwill, V.H.A., Alma College, and Flint Area McAvinchey Day Care Centers. Nancy was the co-founder of F.A.R.R. and currently the president of Grace, Inc. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fenton and was very active with all the local churches of Genesee and Livingston Counties. Surviving are: sister-in-law, Carol Ann Lawrence-Stockham of Lexington, KY and two nephews, Jeffery (Eileen) Stockham and Matthew (Piper) Stockham of Lexington, KY; special friends, Pagi, Jan and Grace; many colleagues and friends also survive.
