Myrtle D. Combs

May 16, 1915 — January 24, 2004

COMBS, Myrtle D. - Age 88, of Swartz Creek, died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Combs was born May 16, 1915 in Greenville, TN, the daughter of William N. and Lula (Taylor) Hixon.  She lived most of her life in Flint and Swartz Creek, coming here from Lexington, KY in 1933.  She and John Brady were married in 1931.  He preceded her in death in 1970.  Later in 1972, she and Elbert F. Combs were married and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2003.  Mrs Combs was employed at Cotharin's Cleaners and McLaren Hospital.  She was an inspiration to all who knew her and dearly beloved by her family.  She was a marvelous cook her entire life, feeding hosts of friends and family around her table.  She loved gardening and grew beautiful flowers.  She created lovely quilts and was unbeatable in word games.  She delighted in reading scriptures and studying the Word of God.  Her faith in God was unshakable.  She saw her prayers answered.  She will be sadly missed by family, friends and neighbors, but she dwells now with her heavenly Father and loved ones gone on before.  Surviving are: her children, Bettie and husband, William Arthur of Middletown, OH, Harold and wife, Janet Brady of Owosso, MI, Thelma and husband, Arden Bradley of St. Joseph, MI, Robert and wife, Devi Brady of Glennie, MI and Sandra and husband, Dan Messick of Gladwin, MI; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Brady; her parents; sisters, Pearl Fletcher, Mary King, Stella Yates and Della Yates; her brothers, Burnette Roberts, Tome Roberts and Howard Hixon.  Services will be held 11AM Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek.  Her son-in-law, Rev. William A. Arthur will officiate with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8PM tonight.  Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  Friends may share their on-line condolences at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
