SMITH, Mildred A. - of Swartz Creek, age 99, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, September 22, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Hal Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Halsey United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith was born in Swartz Creek April 4, 1909, the daughter of Bert and Rebie Crapser. She resided in the Swartz Creek area all of her life. She married Russell Smith on June 6, 1930. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Baker Business College and worked many years as an office manager for the Swartz Creek Elevator. In later years she was employed by Sears Roebuck, retiring in 1985. She was an accomplished piano player and also enjoyed quilting, knitting and writing. Mrs. Smith frequently traveled to various nursing homes to entertain with her music. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, United Methodist Women's Group and Senior Citizens. She was awarded a Life Long Honorary Membership in the Historical Society for writing a detailed account of the early days of Swartz Creek. Surviving are: son, Roger and wife, Dolores of Swartz Creek; four grandsons, Clark of Panama City, FL, Mark and wife, Sue of Vernon, Bryan and wife, Victoria of Grand Blanc, Phillip of Swartz Creek; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Holly and Nicole.
