Mildred Knight Eby, nee Beck, 87, passed away on the morning of July 27, 2022 in Fenton, Michigan, after battling a lengthy illness. “Millie” is survived by her children, Mark Vernon Knight (Erin Neal), Deborah Knight Bovee (Bruce) and Julie Knight Merucci (Rocco). She was the proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren (Danielle, Mandee, Katelin, Emily, Abby, Hannah and Rocco) and the great grandmother of two great grandchildren (Ava and Brielle). Millie was predeceased by her husband and the father of her children, Vernon Knight, her second husband, Hyatt (Vince) Eby, parents Clarence Leiter Beck and Mildred Walter Beck, and her brother, Frederick Beck.
Millie was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1935 during the depths of the Great Depression. Her family later moved to Birmingham, Michigan in the late 1940s where Millie graduated from Seaholm High School. She attended Hillsdale College where she met her future husband, Vern. After they married they lived in various towns in Michigan, including Hillsdale, Detroit, Birmingham and eventually settled and bought a home in Redford Township where they raised their three children together. After Vern’s death, Millie met and married Vince and they eventually moved to Linden, Michigan where they retired and lived for the rest of their lives. After Vince’s passing, Millie found a loving friendship with Roger Kaufman, whom she adored.
Millie was a genuinely kind, deeply caring and sweet woman who had a very bright and nurturing demeanor. She was loving, positive and thankful for the meaningful aspects of her life. She often told her children how fortunate she was to have her own home and her family.
Millie’s remains will be interred at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia Michigan and family services will be held later in August. The family would like to thank the attentive and loving staff at Vicinia Gardens in Fenton, Michigan, where she was cared for during the last 11 months of her life. The family feels deep gratitude toward the staff and nurses of The Medical Team Hospice who provided our mother with loving care over the last many months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to the Alzheimer’s Association.
