Mildred "Millie" Mrakava BLACKBURN

BLACKBURN, Mildred Mrakava - age 93, of Durand, passed away, Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Lodge of Durand Assisted Living. Funeral mass will be celebrated 2 PM Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Road, Swartz Creek with Fr. Dan Kogut celebrant. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek and from 1 PM until the time of mass Wednesday at the church. Contributions may be made to Home and Health Advantage or St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Mrs. Blackburn was born May 27, 1920 in Ashley, MI, the daughter of Anton and Bessie (Reha) Strachota. Mildred Frank Mrakava were married at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister, MI and resided in the Lennon area since 1941 with winters in Lake Worth, FL. Mrs. Blackburn was a homemaker after she retired from Fisher Body Coldwater Rd., Flint in 1975. After frank passed away in 1984 she later married Clyde Blackburn and they resided in Durand and Florida. Mildred loved her Czechoslovakian heritage, polka dancing and making kolaches. She had been a member of the ZCBJ Lodge for 75 plus years. Mrs. Blackburn is survived by: one son, Jerry and wife, Jane Mrakava of Durand; two grandchildren, Jason and Trisha Mrakava of Lennon and Jody and Chad Newhouse of Jacksonville, FL; four great grandchildren, Blake and Brendon Newhouse and Nicholas and Allison Mrakava. She is also survived by two stepchildren, David and Donna Blackburn of MA, Chris and Pat Blackburn of Chicago and grandson Daniel Blackburn; brother, Jerry and wife, Martha Strachota of Owosso; sister, Marie Bernath of Owosso. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mrakava; husband, Clyde Blackburn; her parents and her brother, Joe Strachota.
