Michael Van Goethem

Van Goethem, Michael George - Age 77, of Linden, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, May 8, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St, Fenton (A live stream of the Mass will be available on Michael's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com).  Fr. David Harvey celebrant.  Burial will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Sunday from 4-8 PM and at church Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Disabled American Veterans.

Michael was born June 29, 1945 in Monterey, CA, the son of George and Margaret (Merwin) Van Goethem.  He was a 1963 graduate of St. Ambrose Catholic High School in Detroit and he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Michigan State University.  He married Helen M. Wetzel August 5, 1967 in Ithaca.  He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army, where he received a Bronze Star.  Michael was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  He enjoyed golfing, cooking, grilling, watching football, coaching Little League and most of all spending time with his family.

Surviving are: his wife, Helen; sons, David (Linda) Van Goethem of Novi and John (Kristina) Van Goethem of Fenton; grandchildren, Abigail, Drew, Margaret and Sydney; brothers, Bob (Kathy) Van Goethem of Sterling Heights and Jerry (Debbi) Van Goethem of Macomb Township; and several nieces and nephews.
