McDONALD, Michael Anthony - Age 67, of Byron, passed away May 10, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held from 1-6PM on Saturday, June 11, 2022. For details, please contact the family. Those desiring may make contributions in his memory to the Michigan Nature Association, as one of Michael's missions in life was to save as many turtles as he could. Michael was born September 3, 1954 in Detroit, the son of John Edward and Algeta Rosamaria (Giananntoni) McDonald. He grew up in Livonia, MI, and was a graduate of Stevenson High School. Michael had many interests growing up but music, art, playing hockey, tennis and cycling were some of his favorites. In his adult life, Michael began his career at B&E Sales as a programmer, where he met his wife, Julie, and they were married in 1980. He went on to advance as the IT Director at Erb Lumber, Production Tool, and continued on with his management roles at Art Van Furniture, for a career spanning over 40 years. Michael was also a loving father to his three daughters, and indulged their passions throughout life. Where he truly shined though was as a grandfather to his beloved Georgina and Teddy. Michael had many talents and throughout his life was very curious and always loved to learn. He took classes and taught himself to play the guitar, speak Italian, how to take professional photos, and was a licensed HAM Radio Operator. Michael was most recently proud of earning a certificate from Central Michigan University in Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security. Michael was an avid trivia buff, a huge Detroit sports fan and was very proud of his Canadian and Italian Heritage. He was a great cook and loved to gather a large group for a big meal of his specialty, fettuccine alfredo. His family and friends were the light of his life and he loved telling stories to anyone he met about them. He had an enormous wealth of knowledge about everything and wanted to share it with the world. He is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters, Jillian and her husband Niall McCarthy, Shannon McDonald and her dog, Dolly, Alison McDonald and her fiance, Frank Gargano; grandchildren, Georgina and Theodore; brother, Jeffery McDonald; sister, Janice and husband Jeffrey Miller; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, two brothers-in-law Joseph/Esther Melnik and Geno/Julie Melnik; and his beloved dog, Winnie. He was preceded in death by his parents. In light of Michael’s love of telling stories, we’d love to hear some of your favorites. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
