Michael Gilbert

GILBERT, Michael Lawrence - Age 82, of Swartz Creek, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020. In accordance with Mike's wishes cremation will take place. No services will take place at this time. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Mike lived his life to the fullest. He had a great sense of humor, he was so compassionate and he had a heart of gold. Mike was born on April 1, 1938 in Midland, Michigan, the son of Merton and Norma (Beiser) Gilbert. He graduated from Flint Technical High School and was a graduate from the Flint Junior College. Mike worked for Dow Chemical and Universal Electric before his retirement. He served in the United States Army Reserves for 5 and a half years. Mike and Marilyn Chaprnka were united in marriage on May 1, 1998. Mike was a member of the  First Church of Christian Scientist, he was an usher there for many years.  He was an avid windsurfer, snow border, and skier.  He was a member of the ski club. Mike enjoyed his hobby in RC Radio Controlled Model Aircraft and was a member of the Flying Aces RC Club in Swartz Creek. He also was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Mike was a fantastic dancer, which he enjoyed tremendously with his wife. His favorite dances included the Waltz and Polka. He earned his private pilots license and enjoyed flying his Pitts Special S-IC. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marilyn (Chaprnka); 2 sons, Damon and Darren Pickard; brother-in-law, Frank (Constance) Chaprnka; very dear and special cousins, John (Linda) Harris, Alex (Judy) Harris, Julie (Bob) Vieu; and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Norma Gilbert; and special cousin, Melony Foley.
