Michael was born July 18, 1959 in Flint, the son of the late John and Donna (Fisher) Elliott. From a young age Michael was an avid sailor, learning the ropes from his parents and helping his father build a boat in their garage. In 1978, He became a founding member of Huron Yacht Club where he spent many weekends sailing and hanging with friends. As he grew up he developed an appetite for competition, winning countless races all over the Great Lakes and sometimes on the ocean. Michael was widely respected by the sailing community for his racing accomplishments and ability. Despite his knack for competition, his joy for sailing was something that he was always willing to share with anyone that was interested, prioritizing fun and learning. Michael was a great lover of the outdoors and enjoyed camping. As a young man he would sail the great lakes and hitchhike to numerous places including the Great Smoky Mountains and Isle Royale in his search for outdoor adventure. Michael worked as a testing technician for several automotive companies and took pride in his problem-solving abilities which were often recognized by his superiors. Though most would say sailing was Mike’s passion, his sons were his pride and joy. He was attentive and taught the boys to look at life with curiosity and to seek adventure. Michael was a loving father to Graham (Mariah) Elliott and Jack (Dana Debuc) Elliott. He is also survived by his sister, Sue (Al) Katz; brothers, John (Debbie) Elliott, Dave (Bonnie) Elliott and Robert (Anna) Elliott; many nieces and nephews; and the Mother of his children, Libby (Linton) Elliott.
