Merry Carol (Throne) Broom, age 86, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Ralph Rebandt will preside with burial following in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, the Gideon's International or the Michigan Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.
Merry was born on December 22, 1937 in Springfield, Missouri the daughter of the late Virgil and Exah (Thomason) Throne. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield. Following, she continued her education with Mott Community College, the University of Michigan Flint and lastly Eastern Michigan University where she obtained her master's degree in social work. Merry was united in marriage to Dale "Dwayne" Broom on December 11, 1954. Sadly, he preceded her in death on September 19, 1994. She worked for the Genesee County Court in pre-trial services for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Swartz Creek. Merry would volunteer a lot of her time with the Disaster Relief of Michigan, traveling along the east coast helping many from hurricanes, flooding and tornados. She has cooked and served over thousands of families hit by disasters. Merry was passionate about rocks, gardening and nature including all animals from birds to other wildlife.
She is survived by her children, Douglas (Teresa) Broom, Deborah (Dave) Kittell Ph.D. and David Broom; grandchildren, Megan (Gabe) Slominski, Garrett (Katie) Broom, Merry Kittell and Justin (Lindsay) Broom; great-grandchildren, Cole and Tyson Champine, Ava and Isa Slominski, Laura and Jack Broom, Morgan Schmidt and Madison Broom; and siblings, Leonard Throne, Michael Throne, Ina Hungerford and Lovie Forrester.
In addition to her parents and husband, Merry was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorinda Broom; granddaughter, Tamara Jean; and siblings, Jim Throne, Evelyn Cantrell and Emma Belle Cobb. Tributes may be shared at
