Merrell Harris

HARRIS, Merrell T. - Age 91 of Gaines, died August 25, 2017. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 11AM at Gaines United Methodist Church,117 W. Clinton St., Gaines. Visitation will be held 2-8PM Sunday and 4-7PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, and again at 10AM until time of service at the church on Tuesday. Merrell was born August 23, 1926 in Flint, the son of Theodore M. and Anna (Teabaugh) Harris. He was married to Edna West O'Brien on April 12, 1957 in Flint. Merrell was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and retired as a Skilled Trades Supervisor at Chevrolet in 1982. He was a life long active member of all his churches. He was a member of the Swartz Creek Senior Citizen Association. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and square dancing. Merrell vacationed in Florida for 23 years, and also was a charter member #108 of the Holiday Rambler Travel Club. He was a member of the Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge #458. He loved working with his hands and was a talented builder and tinsmith. Surviving are his wife, Edna; children, Dan (Nancy) Harris, Debbie (Michael) Kane, Lynn (Tom) Atherton, Dennis (Sue) O'Brien, Janet (David) Heck, Janice (Niel) Nielsen Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren.
