Merlyn W. Voller

VOLLER, Merlyn W. -- Age 95, of Fenton, formerly of Mt. Morris, died August 29, 2010 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Saturday, September 4 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, Rev. Dale A. Woods Sr. officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 PM Friday. Those desiring may make contributions to Covenant Hills Campground in Otisville or Heartland Hospice. Mr. Voller was born October 16, 1914 in Wilson, MI, the son of Rev. F.D. Voller and Ruth (McDougald) Voller. He was a graduate of Spring Arbor High School, and attended Spring Arbor Junior College. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors degree and Michigan State University with a Masters Degree. He married Mabel Irene Hicks on August 29, 1936; she preceded him in death on November 30, 2008. Mr. Voller spent his 34 year career at Beecher High School retiring in 1973; he was Principal of the Senior and Junior High Schools, a math teacher, counselor and basketball coach. He had lived in Mt. Morris for 34 years and Alpena for 30 years, most recently residing in Fenton at Lockwood Senior Community; and wintering in Florida at the Light & Life Free Methodist Park. He also worked for the East Michigan Conference Office of the Free Methodist Church. He was very active in the Fairhaven Free Methodist Church (Flushing Free Methodist Church) as a Sunday school teacher and he taught the Young Married Class for 25 years. Mr. Voller is survived by: four children, Mary Lee and husband Duane Cain of Alpena, Diane and husband Jim Nowlin of Woodland Park, CO, Douglas Voller and wife Ruthie of TX, Vickie and husband Paul Banks of Linden; 10 grandchildren, Cheri, Craig, Greg, Scott, Kristin, Kirk, Jeff, Kameron, Chad and Benjamin; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister-in-law, Bethavery Voller of Spring Arbor; sister-in-law, Velma and husband Don Burt of Lansing; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mabel; great-grandson Cody; one brother; and one sister. The family extends a special thank you to The Medical Team.
