Melvin Charles JONES

JONES, Melvin Charles - age 77, of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Jim Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9 PM Friday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Swartz Creek Building Fund. Mr. Jones was born March 30, 1934 in Granite City, IL, the son of William and Pearl Jones. He played minor league baseball for many years for the Louisville Sluggers. He married JoAnn Monroe on September 20, 1952. Mr. Jones retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. He was an active member and Deacon at First Baptist Church of Swartz Creek. Surviving are: wife, JoAnn; four children, Susan (Rick) Belt of Mundy Twp., David (Janie) Jones of Marietta, GA, Michael (Nancy) Jones of Linden, Stephen (Corrie) Jones of Flushing; nine grandchildren, Lindsay (Michael) Dillon, Matthew Belt, Victoria Jones, Barrett Jones, Nolan Jones, Andrew and Jackson Jones, Braydin and Reece Jones; one great-grandchild, Grayson Dillon.
