Melvin Boyce

Boyce, Melvin Dale - Age 96 of Linden, died December 31, 2018. Services will be held 11:30 AM Monday, January 7, 2018 at Argentine Church of the Nazarene, 16248 S Seymour Rd, Linden, MI. Reverend Robert Lindsay, Reverend Kiesha Plaskett and Reverend Brandon Hird officiating. Visitation will be from 2PM-8PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel 209 E. Broad Street, Linden as well as 10:30-11:30 AM Monday at the church. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.Those desiring may make contributions to the Argentine Church of the Nazarene. Melvin was born on May 12, 1922 in Kinsella, Alberta, Canada to John and Verna A. (McCauley) Boyce. Melvin came to the Flint area at six months old. He was a graduate from Flint Central High School and is a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II from 1942-1947. He married Kathaleen Hartman on May 28, 1949 in Argentine. He worked for General Motors as a carpenter/pattern maker for 42 years. He was a clarinet player playing in the US Army Band and also the first chair clarinet player for the Flint Symphony Orchestra. He loved photography and wood working. Surviving are wife, Kathaleen of Linden; children, Deborah (Richard) Carlile of Titusville, Florida, Steven (Beth) Boyce of Geneva, Illinois, Dave (Jean) Boyce of Lockport, Illinois, Dalynn (Steven) Murphy of Linden, Michigan, Mark (Lorrie) Boyce of Linden, Michigan; sixteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Lanola Boyce of North Carolina and Ruby Boyce of Swartz Creek, Michigan. He was preceded in death by three brothers,Wayne Boyce, Ronald Eugene Boyce,and John Stanley Boyce; great-grandson, James Zells. Online tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
