Maye B. Meakin

MEAKIN, Maye B. -- Age 102, of Grand Blanc, died March 18, 2011 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Monday, March 21 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, G-9020 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, The Reverend George Cleaves Jr. officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral Monday at the church. Surviving are: daughter Sandra Applegate of Grand Blanc; two granddaughters, Susan Applegate of Santa Monica, CA, Amanda and husband John Rutledge of Chicago, IL; three great-grandsons, Pierce Rutledge, Preston Rutledge, Clyde Applegate. She was preceded in death by her husband Stuart Meakin; and sister Alice Gordon. Maye was born September 1, 1908 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Higgins) Moore. She married Stuart W. Meakin July 11, 1929 in Detroit. Maye was a high achiever throughout her life. She worked as a Dental Assistant for over 50 years. She was instrumental in organizing the Dental Assistant Society and continued on to serve as State and National President. She taught dental classes at the University of Detroit. Locally she was a member of the Grand Blanc Women's Club and the Red Hat Ladies. Her positive outlook inspired all who knew her.
