Matilda Theresa VARNES

VARNES, Matilda Theresa -- Age 98, of Swartz Creek, died January 19, 2011 at Genesys Hospice Care Center, Goodrich. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday, January 24 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Rev. Dr. Andrew Allie officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 1-5 PM Sunday. Those desiring may make contributions to Genesys Convalescent Center or Genesys Hospice Care Center. She was born March 5, 1912 in Csepel Island, Hungary the daughter of Louis and Hermina (Burza) Kocsis. Matilda married Ezra Lyle Varnes in 1933, he preceded her in death in 1968. She was a 1930 graduate of Flint Central High School. She was a member of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. Surviving are: daughter Shirley A. Borrow of Durand and Arizona; son Lyle E. (Judy) Varnes of Texas; step-daughter Bernadine Sweers of Arizona; twelve grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; step-son Donald Varnes; two sisters Betty and Ann; brother Jim; son-in-law Donald Borrow; and great grandson Casey Borrow. A special thank you to Patty, Amy, Dr. Braver, the staff at Genesys Convalescent Center, the caring staff at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich, and to Linda Blake for six years of love and care.
